Why we call it First Cousins
Here’s a little family secret.
We’re a family business. Before we pour anything new in our wine room, before our own staff even knows, our first cousins know.
They’re the people we grew up with. The ones we trust most. The ones we set a bottle aside for. In our family, a first cousin is practically a sibling.
So we built a wine club that treats every member the same way. Only it isn’t about us.
First Cousins Wine Club is about building family around Black winemakers.
<1%
of winemakers in the United States are Black.
A celebration of Black winemaking
Not just support. Celebration.
Black people have a long, rich heritage in winemaking, and it’s rarely told. We search high and low, across the country and beyond, for the best small-batch, handcrafted, and reserve wines from Black winemakers and Black-owned brands.
Every drop is curated: rare small-batch finds, reserve bottles, and beloved favorites. Many are made in small quantities, and some carry waitlists of six months or more. As a First Cousin, yours are set aside every season.
Pickup Day is Tasting Day
We designed your pickup to be worth the drive.
Each quarter, wine club members are invited to First Cousins Tasting Day. You’ll sit down with our wine director and your fellow First Cousins, taste every wine in your drop, hear the story behind each winemaker, and learn what to pair them with. Some seasons, the winemaker may even join us. Then you take your bottles home.
Each drop is designed around the season, so you’ll know exactly what to open for dinner, the holidays, or the friend you’re gifting a bottle to.

Questions from new First Cousins
I’ve never been in a wine club. How does it work?
Each quarter, our wine director chooses 3 to 4 bottles for you from Black winemakers and Black-owned brands. You’re billed $250 once for the season, and about a month later your wine is ready. Pick it up at First Cousins Tasting Day, any day that month, or have it delivered nearby.
When will I be billed?
Once each quarter, on January 15, April 15, July 15, and October 15. Founding First Cousins pay their first $250 in two parts: $100 when they join and $150 on December 1.
Do I have to attend Tasting Day to get my bottles?
No. Tasting Day is the best way to get to know your wines, but you’re welcome to pick up your bottles any day that month. We’ll send your tasting notes and pairing cards home with you.
Can I have my wine delivered?
Yes, if you live within 25 miles of the vineyard, for an additional delivery fee. We don’t ship yet.
Can I skip a quarter?
Yes. You can skip one quarter and keep your membership. Just let us know before that quarter’s billing date. Skipping more than one quarter ends your membership.
What kind of wines will I get?
Curated wines from Black winemakers and Black-owned brands, chosen for the season: rare small-batch finds, reserve bottles, and beloved favorites, each with a story card.
Can I give a membership as a gift?
Yes. Email hello@norwoodvineyard.com and we’ll help you set it up.
Who can join?
Wine club members must be 21 or older. Founding membership is limited to 75 First Cousins.
